AdWords ‘segment’ overview
The ‘Segment’ button is a way to re organize AdWords data into specific levels of detail and according to specific predefined parameters.  Segmentation of AdWords data can be done at the Campaign, AdGroup, Keyword, and Ad levels.

At the Campaign level the parameters that data can be organized are:

  • Network
  • Click Type
  • Device
  • Top vs. Side
  • Day
  • Week
  • Month
  • Quarter
  • Year
  • Day of Week
How this is useful
By looking at data in by any of  these parameters, you can better evaluate the areas where performance is low and make appropriate adjustments.  For example, if you segment your AdWords data by Network and you have all Networks enabled (Google, Search, & Display) you can evaluate the performance of each network and decide whether to disable a specific network that is under performing.
At the end of the day, being able to segment the data in AdWords allows you to better understand how people are searching and what actions steps to take to improve the AdWords account. This in turn, helps the bottom line for your business.
